The Coast & Islands

Where the safari exhales

The Circuit

Zanzibar, Pemba and Mafia sit an hour's flight from the bush: coral sand, warm Indian Ocean, and a thousand years of Swahili trading history in carved stone.

Almost every safari we plan ends here. After a week of early starts and dusty tracks, the coast does something no lodge can — it slows everything down. Stone Town's alleys, spice farms, reefs and dhow sunsets are the counterweight that makes a trip feel complete.

As a Dar es Salaam company, this coastline is our backyard. We know which beach suits which traveller, which tides matter, and which small hotels are worth the extra transfer.

Best for

  • Post-safari beach time and honeymoons
  • Diving, snorkelling and whale sharks
  • Culture and history in Stone Town
  • Families wanting easy, safe swimming

Why Come Here

What the coast circuit does best

Stone Town

A UNESCO World Heritage maze of Swahili, Omani, Indian and European architecture, best walked slowly and late in the day.

Mnemba and Mafia's reefs

Some of the Indian Ocean's healthiest coral, plus seasonal whale sharks off Mafia between October and March.

Pemba's quiet

Greener, hillier and far less visited than Zanzibar, with wall diving that specialists travel a long way for.

Saadani

The only Tanzanian park where the beach meets the bush — elephants on the sand, and a boat safari up the Wami River.

Good to Know

Questions, answered

Three nights is the minimum that feels restful after safari; five to seven if the beach is a real part of the holiday rather than a decompression stop.
