4 Days / 3 Nights · Short Break
Northern Highlights
The crater and the baobabs in four days
The Journey
Overview
The shortest itinerary we are willing to call a proper safari. Two of northern Tanzania's finest parks, no rushed transfers, and a full day on the Ngorongoro Crater floor — designed for travellers with a week of annual leave rather than a month, or as an add-on to a Kilimanjaro climb or a conference in Arusha.
Highlights
- A full day on the Ngorongoro Crater floor
- Elephant herds beneath Tarangire's baobabs
- No internal flights — straightforward and good value
- Comfortable lodges in the Karatu highlands
- Easily extended into the Serengeti

Day by Day
How the journey unfolds
Day 1
Arrive in Arusha
Met at Kilimanjaro International and driven to a garden lodge outside Arusha. Your guide talks through the plan over dinner.
Day 2
Tarangire National Park
A full day among the baobabs, following the river where the elephant herds gather. Bush picnic at midday, then on to the Karatu highlands for the night.
Day 3
Ngorongoro Crater
Down the crater wall at first light for a full day on the floor — lion, elephant, flamingo and, with luck, black rhino — before climbing back out to the rim for sunset.
Day 4
Return & depart
A relaxed morning, then the drive back to Arusha or the airport, arriving in good time for an afternoon flight.

Good to Know
Questions, answered
For these two parks, yes — both reward a concentrated visit. What four days will not give you is the Serengeti, which needs three nights of its own to be worth the drive. Add three days and we will include it.
